Tele-Classes -- How they work
Classes

Faculty and Staff
Classes are scheduled for once weekly or twice weekly for a total of two hours per week at a time coordinated between the students, the professor and the coordinator, Candy Lobb.
( to email Candy, click HERE)

Classes are typically 90 minutes in length or 1 hour and 55 minutes unless otherwise noted.  Please join the classes no more than 1-2 minutes early, and please be on time.  All classes will start at the posted times.

To call in, dial the confidential class phone number and then, when promted, dial in the confidential code you are given.  You will be connected to the class.  A beep is heard as each student enters the class.

If the class uses a handout, these will be emailed or postal mailed to each registered student.  If a book is part of the class, students are responsible for acquiring their own copies.  In some cases, we will have copies of the book for sale if desired.

The classes are conducted through a state-of-the-art audio conferencing line.  All participants will be able to talk.  For this reason, class size is limited.  We request that "land-line" phones only be used to minimize background noise, static and echoes.  Calls will not be permitted from cell phones or VOIP phones.  Any student using such a phone will be asked to leave the call with no refunds.

Fees are to be paid directly to ALEPH.  Instructions will be included in the registration email. Refunds for cancellations will be made according to the guidelines in the registration email, only.  Refunds will not be made in the event of student absences or if a student is asked to leave the call.  Fees for this semester are: 5 students = $500; 4 students = $550;
3 students = $650; 2 students = $750.

Your semester-length course will be roughly equivalent to a three-credit per semester graduate course, utilizing primary source materials and expecting deep analysis and reflection by the student. There will be a built-in process of evaluation, and the expectation of some significant work by each student beyond participation in class sessions. This may be a paper, presentation, project, examination (written or oral), or some other modality to be agreed upon.

Each semester-length course should consist of between 12 and 14 (13 is typical) sessions of approximately 90 minutes - 2 hours each. The instructor will allocate time for at least two brief private tutorial sessions (15-30 minutes) during the semester for each student. In this kind of teaching it is also anticipated that the instructor will set aside an hour during the week in which he or she would be available to answer occasional questions over the telephone. Students should be able to e-mail appropriate questions to which the instructor will respond.
